COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (2)
Monday, February 25, 2013
QUESTION NO. 1
QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney
"To ask the Manager for a report on all reported watermains bursts in the area under the remit of this Committee in 2012 and so far in 2013; to state the procedure for dealing with a burst and informing residents and others affected; and to report any statistics (if available) or other information on mains bursts before and after works done under the Water Mains Rehabilitation Project in specific areas?"
REPLY:
In the year 2012, there were 94 burst watermains in the South Dublin County Council (SDCC) area with 84 being natural bursts due to the condition of the pipework and 10 due to third partys bursting the mains. Approximately half these bursts took place in the Tallaght South and Tallaght Central areas. In January 2013, there has been 14 natural busts and no third party burst. Again, approximately half of these were in the Tallaght Committee's area. As burst watermains are not planned works the Water Section is unable to inform people in advance of shutdowns in the water network but we do put the information up on the SDCC's webpage on the day of the shutdown and all our customer care operatives are informed. There would seem to have been only one burst watermain in the areas where the rehabilitation of watermains took place recently on St. Peters Road.
