QUESTION NO. 7

QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney

"To ask the Manager for a report of the recent meeting held with residents of St Joseph's Rd, Greenhills regarding trees on the road, to state the works to be carried out and to state a timeline for the works to take place?"

REPLY:

A meeting took place with the residents of St Joseph’s Road on the evening of the 20th February 2013 in the Greenhills Community Centre.  Approximately 60 people attended the meeting to discuss the options that the Council would present on how to deal with the issues arising from the street trees and that have been a cause of concern to the residents for a number of years.  Most of these issues relate to the height of the trees, the density of planting in certain areas and the effect of the overhead utilities on the subsequent pruning of the trees.

A presentation on a proposal to remove 9 trees, to prune all of the remaining trees by Crown Lifting and Crown Reduction and to replant 9 trees in spaces that have been identified was agreed to by the residents.  It was also proposed and agreed to that 2 trees will be removed each year and replaced if possible in order to facilitate a gradual and phased programme of removal and replacement.

It is proposed to undertake this work in the next month.
