MOTION NO. 3

MOTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

That this Council supports the need for a more targeted approach to achieving a modal shift from private car to public transport and therefore calls on the Minister for Transport and the National Transport Authority to promote and permit greater bus service competition on key city-centre routes from our county as well as on potential new orbital routes in West & South County Dublin;  and further supports the extension of subvention to private bus operators.

REPORT:

One of the principal functions of the National Transport Authority in the Greater Dublin Area is to promote an integrated public transport network, implementing integrated ticketing, fares and information schemes, regulating fares and encouraging increased public transport use.

Should the motion be agreed by the members a letter will issue to the Minister for Transport and the National Transport Authority outlining the sentiments contained in the motion.
