MOTION: Councillor T. Delaney
That this Committee requests an action plan from the Manager to address the very significant problem of dumped rubbish on the Nangor Road stretch from Grange Castle to Newcastle/Peamount Road and also the Aylmer Road
REPORT:
The Council will examine the area in question with a view to implementing a plan that addresses the issue of dumped waste along the verges and in the hedgerows in this area. This plan will incorporate identifying the source and nature of the waste and will be implemented by the Cleansing section in conjunction with the Road sweeping contractor.
The Nangor Road from Grange Castle Business Park to the Newcastle Road and the Alymer Road is scheduled for road sweeping by the Council Contractor. The contractor is responsible for ensuring that all Main Roads are swept along kerbs and channels and that all litter is removed between the road or street boundary on one side (ie the wall, fence, hedge) and the road or street boundary on the other side including verges, footpaths, cycle tracks, traffic islands, medians and other hard surface areas . The sweeping and cleaning of this main road occurs at a frequency of twelve times per annum and takes place on a monthly basis. The quantity of Litter and Waste removed on a daily basis from the main road shall be unrestricted.
