QUESTION NO. 8
QUESTION: Councillor B. Bonner
To ask the Manager what is the current situation with regard to all of the empty houses in St Bridget's cottages? Has any progress been made in relation enforcing the penalties available under the derelict sites act?
REPLY:
Five of these properties are owned by S.I.A.C. The Council's Enforcement and Licensing Division recently made contact with S.I.A.C., as owners of the properties, for the purpose of establishing the company's future proposals for these cottages, which comprise lands of approx. .5 of an acre for each site. S.I.A..C. advised it is the company's intention within the next six months or so to commence discussions with SDCC in relation to development proposals for these sites.
S.I.A.C. further reported that the company has advised that given current structural condition of the properties, they are not fit for letting and that in order to render them fit, substantial refurbishment works would need to be undertaken.
S.I.A.C. has and will continue to maintain the properties, which includes grass cutting, litter removal and security of doors/windows. All of the utilities, e.g. E.S.B. Gas Water services have been retarded in each of the properties so as to mitigate any danger while the properties remain unoccupied.
