MOTION: Councillor D. Looney
This Committee congratulates all involved with the Tidy Towns initiative to date and asks for a report on the areas where there is currently an active Tidy Towns group, and where plans exist to establish groups in the future.
REPORT:
There were 5 entries from South Dublin County in the 2012 Tidy towns competition, including Lucan, Clondalkin, Rathfarnham, Palmerston and Griffeen. The reports for all entries can be found at this link. The adjudication reports includes comments under the various judging categories
- Overall development approach
- The Built environment
- Landscaping
- Wildlife and Natural amenities
- Litter Control
- Tidiness
- Waste Minimisation
- Residential Areas
- Roads, streets and back areas
- General Impression
In addition to the 5 groups that entered this year, a number of other groups were convened and have begun to become very active through the Social Credits System. For 2013, the Council aims to conitinue to support these groups in their efforts to gain entry to the competition while also assisting the 2012 groups to improve on their scores in future competitions.
A Tidy Towns public meeting is being organised by the Council which will be held on Thursday 7th February in the Green Isle Hotel, Clondalkin. This meeting will provide information on the Tidy Towns process and give both exisiting and establishing groups an opportunity to network and share learning.
