MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

MOTION NO. 7

MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

Cathaoirleach's Business

"That this Committee notes the Irish Rail announcement that Hansfield Station is to open for use, and requests the Manager to write to Leo Varadker TD, Minister for Transport, pointing out to him that Hansfield Station and Kishogue Station, Lucan had been the only two unopened stations on commuter lines (the Maynooth line and the Kildare Route) serving residential areas to the west of Dublin City, which have experience rapid population growth in the last ten years, and that with the decision to open Hansfield  it now makes sense to open Kishogue for use, and to ask him to intervene with Irish Rail and the NTA to bring forward the opening of Kisgogue to the early part of 2013. And that copies of the Manager's letter to the Minister be sent be sent to the Chief Executive Officers of Irish Rail and the NTA."

REPORT:

Further to a motion passed at the December meeting the Council wrote to The Minister for Transport Tourism and Sport and to the NTA.  The Minister's Office advised in a letter recieved on 16th January that this is an operational matter for the NTA, who advised in a letter received by the Council on 21st January that "due to recent cuts made to the Authority's capital funding programme, the Authority has had to reduce its capital programme in 2013.  Accordingly, plans by the Authority to complete Kishogue Station and bring it into service in 2013 have had to be postponed.  The Authority will review the position in the event that additional capital funding does become available".
