QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney

"To ask the Manager, in light of recent concerns expressed by students of Tallaght IT who were doing exams there, to investigate the public lighting available in the vicinity of the National Basketball Arena, to state if improvements can be made, and to make a statement on the matter?"

REPLY:

The public lighting along the access road to the National Basketball Arena has been subject to repeated vandalism and damage over a period of many years. A number of meetings were held in 2011 and 2012 between the Council and the Executive of the National Basketball Arena (NBA) to discuss and agree a programme of works to upgrade the access to the arena. These discussions included the public lighting. Several options for the upgrading of the lighting are under consideration with estimated costs of the order of €70,000. When the preferred option has been clarified, the Council will, in collaboration with the National Basketball Arena, seek to identify the necessary resources to undertake the works.
