MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
"That the Manger would present a Report for discussion on the operation of the Christmas Tree Recycling Service this year in the Lucan Electoral Area, including information on any problems experienced, including anti-social incidents such as illegal dumping and setting trees on fire, approximate number of trees left for re-cycling and an estimate of the cost to the Council of providing the service for householders. "
REPORT:
The Council provided a Christmas tree recycling service from Saturday 5th January to Friday 18th January 2013. The public were invited to bring their Christmas trees to any of the 6 locations in the Lucan/Palmerston areas and have them recycled. The 6 locations were as follows:
1. Beechpark open Space
2. Sarsfield Park
3. Haydens Lane car park in Griffeen Valley Park
4. Foxborough Park open space
5. Glenaulin Park
6. Woodfarm Acres
There was some dumping at Glenaulin Park and Foxborough Park open space however this was minor in nature and consisted of some bags of clothing and wheelie bins. There were incidences of trees being burnt at Haydens Lane Car Park (approx 6), Glenaulin Park (approx 20) and Beech Park (approx 40). A total of 1,683 trees were collected at a cost of approximately €3,300.
