QUESTION NO. 10

QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

"To ask the Manager to advise the Committee if the mobile car wash unit which is reported to be based in the car park of the SuperValu Shopping Centre in Palmerston requires Planning or other Permission from the Council, and if the unit is refilled with water from a pipestand in the car park, is a water charge collected by the Council?"

REPLY:

There is no record of planning permission for change of use of any part of the Palmerston (SuperValu) Shopping Centre car park for commercial use as a car wash.

A planning enforcement file  S7178 has been opened in relation to the operation of the mobile car wash/valeting facility in the shopping centre car park and for associated signage, all without the benefit of planning permission.

The issues regarding water usage, waste/soiled water disposal and water charges were referred to Environmental Services.

The Members will be kept informed of progress on this investigation.
