QUESTION NO. 1

QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

"To ask the Manager to provide a detailed report on the on-site meeting held with members of Finnstown Abbey Residents Association on foot of the recent deputation meeting; and to further advise on any proposals being put forward by the Roads Department in response to issues identified and discussed during the on-site meeting?"

REPLY:

A site meeting with representatives from the Finnstown RA was on the afternoon of the 14th December 2012.

Of interest to the residents association was the issue of access to the local schools utilising the section of Griffeen Valley Park between Esker Road and Esker Drive. This route permits residents to travel through parklands for school trips etc.

The residents are interested that this route is improved to a high quality. The following points were made:

On Esker Road the park gate opposite is located in Rockfield. Pedestrian access is provided from Finnstown via residential roads to Rockfield. It was agreed that this section of road be studied for pedestrian facilities. On Esker Drive a pedestrian crossing is provided at the park access point.

It was agreed that this section of road be studied for pedestrian facilities and a source of funding be identified

On the east side of the park a foot path is provided on the opposite side of Esker Road to the park boundary, near Arthur Griffith Park estate the footpath ends and an uncontrolled crossing is provided to an entrance into the park. A footpath is provided in the park and can be accessed at the Haydens Lane roundabout.
