MOTION NO.1

MOTION: Councillor E. Walsh 2009

Ag féachaint ar thairiscint a ritheadh i nDeireadh Fómhair i mbliana maidir le hurraíocht ó thionscal na ndeochanna alcóil do chúrsaí spóirt, go ndéanfaidh an Chomhairle seo cosc a chur i bhfeidhm ar fhograíocht  alcóil ar Áitribh na Comhairle sa mhéid is féidir nuair a n-imreoidh daoine faoi aois orthu.

Having regard to the motion passed in October this year having regard to sponsorship from the drinks industry for sport, that this Council shall impose a ban on alcohol advertising on Council premises as far as possible where under-age persons are present.

REPORT:

Glacadh leis an rún seo leanas ag cruinniú mí Deireadh Fómhair den Chomhairle:

“Go dtacaíonn an Chomhairle seo leis an mbeartas deireadh a chur leis an urraíocht ó thionscal na ndeochanna alcóil do chúrsaí spóirt, de réir a chéile, ag féachaint ar an díobháil a dhéantar dár sochaí agus dár dtimpeallacht de bharr mhí-úsáíd alcóil.”  

I gcomhair le tearmaí an rún i mí Deireadh Fómhair, is feidir an rogha deireadh a chur le fógraíocht alcóil i foirgneamh an Chomhairle, nuair atá daoine Óga i lathair a scrúdú ach nil fógraíocht alcóil i foirgneamh an Chomhairle faoi lathair.

Má comhaontaítear an Rún atá ann faoi láthair, beidh aird ar théarmaí an Rún in aon tograí amach anseo lena n-áirítear fógraíocht.

The following motion was agreed at the October 2012 meeting of the Council:

"That this Council supports the gradual ending of sponsorship of sport from the alcohol drinks industry having regard to the damage that is done to our society and environment because of the abuse of alcohol."

In line with the terms of the October 2012 motion, the option of imposing a ban on alcohol advertising on Council premises when under-age persons are present could be examined, however at present there is no alcohol advertising in any Council owned facility in the County.

If the current Motion is agreed, regard will be had to the terms of the Motion in any future proposals which include advertising.
