COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE
Wednesday, December 19, 2012
MOTION NO. 17
MOTION: Councillor T. Delaney
That this committee calls for the postponement of the current elaborate plan for the Clondalkin Round Tower Park, Museum, etc and instead pursue a more realistic plan considering the current constraints on public funding. A consultation process should begin immediately with all relevant parties including local working groups eg. Round Tower Action Group, Tidy Towns, etc
As a starting point this Councillor suggests the following items could be achieved in the short term with SDCC co-operation-
1. Landscape and open up the garden area
2. Secure and maintain all relevant properties to a basic level eg. roofs
3. Get the corner house moderately renovated to use as a Visitor Centre, Coffee Shop, etc
REPORT:
The Council has welcomed the formation of the new Clondalkin Village Group and its commitment to the advancement of all areas relating to the improvement of the village. The County Architect has met with the Group and committed to ongoing meetings to develop strategies and approaches to these issues. This work will be carried out as a consultation and shared process and a variety of proposals and projects will arise through the process. It is recommended that decisions on Millview Cottages and an overall approach be followed through and agreed with the Group over the coming months, and an integrated plan (such as the Tidy Towns 3-Year Framework Plan for instance) be developed identifying short, medium and long-term objectives.
