MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

That this Council meets with Clondalkin Rugby Club to sell / lease 5-10 acres to the club. the land in question is the Corkagh Park lands along the Outer Ring Road between the new Nangor Road and the N7 and that the Manager gives a ball park figure for the cost to the club to sell / lease the land

REPORT:

The lands at Corkagh Park adjacent to the Outer ring Road are currently let to local soccer and GAA clubs. Clondalkin Rugby Club has an allocation adjacent to the baseball diamond. The lands to the north of Corkagh Park are reserved for future housing.

Accordingly, it would be inappropriate for the Council to meet with Clondalkin Rugby Club to discuss a proposal which cannot be catered for.

The Club will continue to be facilitated with an allocation of playing pitches for as long as they exist as an amateur club catering for the local population.

It should also be noted that the Irish Rugby Football Union is the owner of a substantial land holding in the vicinity of Newlands Cross and Clondalkin Rugby Club may wish to discuss their requirements with the IRFU.
