COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

QUESTION NO. 6
QUESTION: Councillor B. Bonner
To ask the Manager could Clondalkin be designated as a Monastic Village and signposted as such on all approach roads? With this designation could come sympathetic and conservative development of a national centre for the interpretation of Ireland's monastic past and the phenomenon of the Round Tower in particular, of which South Dublin is fortunate to have the most impressive example in Clondalkin. This designation and development would belatedly afford due recognition to Cloigtheach Chluain Dolcáin.
REPLY:
The Council has welcomed the formation of the new Clondalkin Village group and its commitment to the advancement of all areas relating to the improvement of the village. The County Architect has met with the group and committed to ongoing meetings to develop strategies and approaches to these issues. This work will be carried out as a consultation and shared process and a variety of proposals and projects will arise through the process. It is recommended that decisions on designations, branding and overall approaches be followed through and agreed with the group over the coming months, and an integrated plan (such as the Tidy Towns 3-Year Framework Plan for instance) be developed.
