MOTION: Councillor M. Duff

That this Committee calls on the Manager to request the County Litter Wardens to visit all schools, clubs and Community Centres in the Tallaght Area to promote the Tackle Litter video  and to encourage residents of areas where there is a considerable amount of dumping, to be viligant and to safely come forward and report such incidents. 

REPORT:

The South Dublin County Council Tackle Litter video was officially launched by the Mayor of South Dublin County on 5th October 2012. The video encourages everyone to tackle litter and make South Dublin County a litter free County.  The video Tackle Litter  seeks to promote anti litter awareness using social media and is part of the implementation of the Litter Management Plan 2011-2014.

The Tackle Litter video has been very successful so far, reaching over 469,000 hits on Youtube and is currently being promoted through www.sdcc.ie, the Fingal, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown, Meath and Kildare County Council website.

The video is also part of a regional anti-litter cinema campaign and will be shown in cinemas throughout South Dublin County, Fingal County,  Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County, County Meath and County Kildare soon. In addition schools, community groups and community centres have been provided with the link and asked to promote the “Tackle Litter” video among their students, teacher and parents association.

The video will be part of all anti-Litter talks that are provided as part of the Green Schools Programme. Tallaght IT are promoting the video among students and staff through the Student Union and their audio video notices in the Institute.

It will also continue to be promoted through the Council's website, facebook and twitter.
