QUESTION NO. 7

QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

To ask the Manager for a detailed report on the proposed changes to the maintainance of national primary routes in 2013, including details of the arrangements being put in place to facilitate representations by elected members and to ensure accountability to the local communities affected?

REPLY: -

Roads Department personnel met with the NRA in relation to the maintenance of both the N7 and N4 on Tuesday 4th September 2012 and the following was agreed:

• Tenders for the Maintenance contract of the N7 and N4 will issue in 3 weeks to 7 shortlisted consortia.  It is intended that maintenance will include road repairs, barrier repair, public lighting, grass cutting and winter maintenance and be similar to the arrangements that pertain with the M50 which is maintained by M50 Concession. 
• The successful contractor will nominate a Liaison Person who will be the link between SDCC and the company in relation to Public representations etc.
• The new contract is expected to be in place by April / May 2013.

The tenders were issued and the NRA are awaiting the return of the documents.  It is expected that the successful contractor will be appointed early in 2013.
