QUESTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

To  ask the Manager to outline how much money has been spent broken down for each year 2009 - 2012 to private landlords in the RAS scheme, and also any other monies paid out to landlords through any other housing schemes the council runs?

REPLY:

RAS

 1,651 units have been transferred to RAS since the scheme started (as at 31st October 2012)

The rents paid to landlords in respect of properties included in the Rental Accommodation Scheme for the years 2009, 2010, 2011 and up to November 2012 are as follows:

2009 €7,993,783.94
2010 €10,075,201.08
2011 €11,366,702.72
2012 (November) €11,422,651.41

It is estimated that the final figure for 2012 will be approximately €12,500,000

Under the terms of RAS, all rents paid to landlords are recoupable from the Department of the Environment Community & Local Government.

SOCIAL HOUSING LEASING INITIATIVE

The rollout of the Social Housing Leasing  Initiative (SHLI) commenced in South Dublin  in 2010.  Under this scheme to date, the Council has procured 165 privately owned properties under lease arrangement for allocation to persons on the social housing waiting List.

The rents paid to landlords in respect of properties included in SHLI as as follows:

2010 €25,172
2011 €687,085
2012 (November) €1,341,186

It is estimated that the final figure for 2012 will be approximately  €1,400,000

Under the terms of the SHLI, all lease rents paid are recoupable from the Department of the Environment Community & Local Government.
