MOTION NO. 13

MOTION: Councillor B. Lawlor

That this Committee support the inclusion of the unused carpark on the Firhouse Road to be incorporated in the new Tallaght Ballyboden Cycle route "park and cycle option or cycle and walking option through Dodder Linear Park.

REPORT:

The National Transport Authority have funded South Dublin County Council in the sum of €80,000 to carry out planning, preliminary design and Part 8 process for the construction of a strategic cycle route from Tallaght to Ballyboden.  The proposed development and accompanying Appropriate Assessment report was placed on public display for the statutory period of six weeks from Thursday, 6th September 2012 until 18th October 2012. 

The Manager’s Report in relation to the public consultation process is currently being prepared and will be presented to the elected members for their consideration.

Following previous representations in the above regard in relation to enabling the existing car park on Firhouse Road to be incorporated into the design of the Tallaght to Ballyboden Cycle Route and following further consultation with the Parks Department, the proposed scheme was amended to include the provision of boundary works around the car park on Firhouse Road as part of the Part 8 proposals. Once constructed this would enable the car park to be opened and used as indicated above.

Consideration is also being given to the provision of cycle stands at this location as part of the detail of the scheme to promote cycling and walking through Dodder Linear Park.
