MOTION NO. 20

MOTION: Councillor C. Jones

"That this Committee calls on the Manager to report on the feasibility of South Dublin County Council tendering to plan/build/develop public buildings (such as schools etc.) in the Lucan/Palmerston area, so that these public facilities can be planned to maximise the benefits/usage for the surrounding community."

REPORT:

The Local Government funding mechanism does not provide for South Dublin County Council to tender to plan/build/develop public buildings beyond the capital expenditure remit of the local authority. SDCC, however, is conscious of the benefits of planning and providing for community facilities within public buildings and will endeavour to realise this ambition where appropriate. SDCC and the patron body of the proposed post-primary school within the Clonburris LAP lands are currently working closely together to ensure that facilities, such as the school gym and pitches, will be planned so that public use of these facilities can be accommodated / easily modified when resources become available.
