MOTION: Councillor J. Hannon

That the carpark at Firhouse Road/Dodder Valley Linear Park be opened for use of parents/guardians dropping off pupils at Scoil Carmel, as current carparking arrangements are inadequate and lead to congestion and potential traffic hazard.

REPORT:

The car park at this location is incomplete in that there is no barrier to prevent encroachment by cars from the car park onto the adjoining parkland.  In the interests of public safety in the park, it is not proposed to open the car park until such time as the park boundary with the car park is secured against unauthorised vehicular access. Options to secure the car park boundary are being costed with a view to identifying the necessary resources to carry out the work in 2013. It should also be noted that the opening and closing of car parks in public parks is covered by the 2011 Park Bye-laws.
