MOTION NO. 15

MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart

"That the Manager give a report that given that we now know that the pipes leading into Castlefield estate cannot cope with the volume of water that occurs during heavy and intense rainfall periods, what steps does the Council intend to take to ensure that resident's homes are protected, pending necessary remedial solutions being undertaken?"

REPORT:

Because of the capacity issues on the piped Ballycullen Stream through Castlefield Estate and the estates and houses downstream of Castlefield, the Council staff will be closely monitoring the situation during periods of heavy and intense rainfall and if men and machinery are required to solve any drainage problem that may arise these will be dispatched immediately. The routine maintenance tasks that the Council undertakes on a regular basis will continue especially before severe weather warnings. These tasks include the cleaning of screens, flushing the main sewers, the cleaning out of road gullys and cleaning of roads especially of leaves at this time of the year.
