"That this Committee notes the concerns expressed by residents about an increase in illegal dumping and littering in the Lucan area, and requests an updated Report from the Manager including her observation on the apparent trend in plastic skips being left on roadways and in housing estates, and include in the Report measures to combat illegal dumping in Cannonbrook Estate, Lucan and information on the number of fines or summonses issued so far in 2012, following on illegal dumping and littering in the Lucan area."
REPORT:
The Council is continuing to deal with littering and illegal dumping throughout the County through a number of measures at its disposal
- Enforcement - In 2012, 124 on the spot litter fines were issued in Lucan, this is an increase of 56% on the number issued in 2011, this is in line with the general trend throughout the County.There is ongoing commitment to enforcing the legislation in relation to litter and waste.
- Communication - The Tackle Litter video has been released and has achieved wide exposure. This will be used in a cinema campaign in the next few months along with "the man with a van" and 'dog fouling' ad. This continues to highlight the issue of litter and its effect on resources.
- Byelaws - A draft of the revised Household waste byelaws has been prepared for public consultation. The new draft includes a section on the presentation of waste for collection and the storage of waste.
