QUESTION NO. 7

QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney

"To ask the Manager to confirm that the Charlie O'Toole bridge over the N81 and the footpaths leading to it are now in the charge of the Council; to state the timeline regarding the taking in charge which has taken place; to state the repair works which have been carried out on the bridge; and to make a statement on the matter?"

REPLY:

The Charlie O’ Toole Bridge and approach footpaths are declared as being Taken In Charge in SDCC Council Meeting of the 8th of October 2012.

Requsted to be taken in charge in August 2007 by P.Elliott and Co, as part of Priors Gate development.

Developer carried out majority of snag works to Priors Gate, including some snags on footbridge prior to liquidation.

Recent work on the footbridge was to secure the steel mesh panels to the sides and top of the bridge walkway. This was necessary due to repeated vandalism of the mesh panels putting both motorists on the N81, and pedestrians on the bridge at risk.
