QUESTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

To ask the Manager to congratulate the RAMS group for the colorful flowerbed planted in St. Finians National School. RAMS have liaised with school teachers to provide children with a practical insight into growing your own vegetables. RAMS are a benefit to the school, and entire community of Newcastle.

REPLY:

R.A.M.S. ( Retired Active Men's Society) Newcastle was founded in September 2010 with the help and expertise of Community workers, They meet on a weekly basis in St  Finian's Community Centre

The group have been very active since their formation and this recent project  with St. Finian's National School was part of their inter-generational project .

They are also involved in Social, Educational and Historical projects in the Community of Newcastle.

The RAMS have been supported by the Council through its Community Worker team from the very beginning and there are similar groups being established elsewhere in the County. The society presents men with an opportunity to meet other men of their own age in a community context and also encourages them to engage in positive and constructive activities such as those outlined above.

The group at Newcastle will be congratulated as requested by Councillor Gilligan.
