MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

MOTION NO. 11

MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

Cathaoirleach's Business

"That this Committee notes that concerns have been expressed by residents about the safety of pedestrians, including schoolchildren, using the new pedestrian crossing at Griffeen Avenue, arising from vehicle drivers failing to slow down and stop as required by law, and to bring a report to the Committee on measures being implemented to increase awareness of drivers of the new crossing, and if the Council will request An Garda Siochana to monitor compliance by drivers with the obligation to stop when a pedestrian approaches the crossing, and to impose the appropriate sanctions on drivers who are breaking the speed limit at the location and/or failing to halt to allow pedestrians to cross safely."

REPORT:

Additional warning signs have been erected adjacent to the zebra crossing on Griffeen Ave.  These signs advise drivers of the speed limit and also contain a reminder that traffic should give way to pedestrians.

In addition, the Gardai in Lucan have been asked to monitor the location and to report back to the Council.
