MOTION NO. 5

MOTION: Councillor P. Cosgrave

Cathaoirleach's Business

"That the Manager intervene in the dispute between Pearse Bros Athletic Club and Ballyboden GAA over use of Cherryfield facilities.  Pearse Bros Athletic Club are being told they cannot use the Cherryfield facilities."

REPORT:

Pearse Bros Athletic Club and Ballyboden St. Endas GAA have been allocated facilities by the Council in Cherryfield Park, Dodder Valley. The Council is not aware of any direction to Pearse Bros Athletic Club restricting their use of the facilities of the park.

The athletic training area is situated in close proximity to a playing pitch leased to Ballyboden St. Endas GAA. From time to time, Pearse Bros Athletics Club have complained about the occasional ball or sliotar falling into the training area they use. This is a matter that relates to the scheduling of activity on both facilities and has been resolved locally in the past by communication between the two clubs.

However, as the matter continues to arise as an issue, it may be necessary for the Council to intervene and propose alternative letting arrangements.  As there is limited space available in the park, a compromise letting arrangement may be necessary in order to deal with the issue.

The Council will continue to liaise with both clubs in an effort to reach an arrangement to resolve the matter.
