MEETING OF SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

Monday, October 08, 2012

MOTION NO.14

MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins

That this Council congratulates members of the Tidy Towns Committees across the County on their fantastic efforts in this year’s competition and acknowledges the hard work of the Council staff, including Máire Ní Dhomhnaill and her team, who supported and encouraged these groups.

REPORT:

There were 5 entries from South Dublin County in the 2012 Tidy towns competition, including Lucan, Clondalkin, Rathfarnham, Palmerston and Griffeen. The reports for all entries can be found at this link. The adjudication reports includes comments under the various judging categories

In addition to the 5 groups that entered this year, a number of other groups were convened and have begun to become very active in the areas. For 2013, the Council aims to conitinue to support these groups in their efforts to gain entry to the competition while also assisting the 2012 groups to improve on their scores in future competitions.

The promotion of participation in such competitions as the Tidy Towns, Pride of Place etc is seen as an essential part of the development of pro-social activities within the county and is therefore a priority for the Council. The Council is committed to continuing to promote these competitions and the ethos of community participation that they espouse.

In preparation for 2013, the Council will shortly be arranging meetings with the groups to prioritise their work programmes for next year. In additiion, a Tidy Towns network will be developed through which groups can share learning, experience and information gained this year.
