QUESTION: Councillor M. Devine

To ask the Manager what is being considered to replace the Tenant Purchase Scheme at year end?

REPLY:

The 1995 Tenant Purchase Scheme is due to expire on the 31^st December 2012.  

The Government intends to introduce a new scheme that will be based on a incremental purchase model. This will enable the State to share in the profits from the resale of the dwelling during the 20 to 30 year period for which the house is subject to an incremental purchase charge. Legislation is planned to be introduced during 2013 to underpin the new scheme.

It is envisaged that this scheme will be in place from 1 July 2013, subject to the necessary legislation being in place.
