QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney

To ask the Manager to detail the Council's preparations for the winter months in terms of plans for road gritting, grit/salt bin locations, and other plans to deal with extreme weather events; to consider the further rollout of grit/salt bins to new estates; and to make a statement on the matter.

REPLY:

The Winter Maintenance Plan 2012/2013 is currently being finalised and will be presented to the Area Committees during the month of October.

At the Transportation SPC Meeting on 6th September 2012 a report was given on the Salt Bin Pilot Scheme that was put into operation as agreed at Area committee meetings for winter maintenance season 2011-2012 (15 estates/3 locations per Electoral Area) it was agreed that two additional salt bins would be provided to each electoral area. The location of the new salt bins will be decided in discussion with the elected members.
