QUESTION NO. 7

QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

"To ask the Manager to ensure that the highly dangerous Halloween bonfire on the embankment between Droim Na Coille and the Traveller accommodation site, adjoining Grange Castle Road, is not permitted to take place this year?"

REPLY:

The Council will continue in its effort to prevent bonfires this year. The approach is outlined below. Council staff will be active in preventing bonfires throughout the County in the run up to Halloween.

There is a 3 strand approach to Halloween 2012

1. Communications
2. Prevention & reduction of bonfire material
3. Celebration

Communications 

•  Postcard outlining the positive and negative aspects of Halloween to be delivered to all houses
•  Halloween activity pack to be sent to all schools
•  Interagency approach to include Gardai, Fire Brigade, Dublin Bus visiting schools to promote a safe Halloween

 Prevention & Reduction of Bonfire material

• Free access to Civic Amenity Ballymount on Saturday 27^th October for all householders with postcard
• Social Credits – Bulbs not Bonfires campaign
• WEEE collections throughout the County by CCRI
• Litter wardens and waste enforecment staff will be active in efforts to prevent the use of materils in bonfires.

 Celebration

The Council and  Tallaght Community Arts are arranging workshops with youth groups in Tallaght and North Clondalkin. The workshops will teach the art of lantern and  figure  making to young people. The events will take place in Tallaght and North Clondalkin.
