Cathaoirleach’s Business
That this Committee commends the Parks Department on the works concluded to date as part of the 2011-12 Arboricultural Programme. This Committee requests a full list of trees dealt with and outstanding works in the Tallaght Central and Tallaght South areas. This Committee further requests a plan of action for the upcoming 2012-13 programme, and urges the Parks Department to examine closely representations which have been on file for a number of years for inclusion.

Update on 2012 Arboricultural Works Programme
The 2012 Arboricultural Works Programme was discussed and agreed with the Elected Members prior to the formal presentation at the November 2011 ACM. The programme set out to undertake significant tree pruning and removal on street trees and trees and shrubbery located on open spaces. It was noted at the outset of the programme that 2012 would be a challenging year in which to undertake such a programme particularly in relation to reduced budgetary provision nationally and loss of staff locally. It was agreed with the Elected Members that the programme should be a realistic one and one that was achievable but dependent on the necessary resources to undertake it. It also meant that not all of the work that is necessary to undertake could be tackled but that the most critical would be.
It is fair to say that the progress to date has been very good and the plan is to continue with this programme to the end of 2012. It will be noted from the report that many trees originally not included in the programme have been attended to and this was based on the on site assessment by local staff of the particular condition of individual trees.
The completion of the programme by December 2012 is dependent on the resource availability to do so.
The 2013 draft programme is under consideration at present and is based on assessments undertaken during the year, representations from Elected Members as well as individual householders. This draft will be discussed with the Elected Members in October and it is planned to present it to the November 2012 ACM.
