QUESTION NO.9
QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney
"To ask the Manager to provide signage or stencilling urging users of Greenhills Park to stop their dogs from fouling, and to make a statement on the matter?"
REPLY:
The majority of dog owners are generally aware of their responsibilities and clean up after their dogs, regardless of whether signage is provided or not. However, a significant number of dog owners will not clean up after their dogs under any circumstances. It is the Council's policy to prosecute such offences but successful prosecutions are difficult to obtain.
Stencils reminding dog owners to clean up after their dogs have already been provided in some of the Council's parks including Tymon Park and Sean Walsh Park in Tallaght. It is planned to continue to provide signage, in the form of stencils, in larger parks and open spaces reminding dog owners to clean up after their dogs. This work will be continue on a phased basis in 2013, subject to the resources to do so, and Greenhills Park will be included in the programme.
