MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins
"That the Manager provide a report on the grass cutting of Palmerstown FCs pitches on Mill Lane and provide assurances that these pitches will be maintained by the Council going forward."
REPORT:
The maintenance of grassed areas throughout the County has been a very significant challenge for the Parks Section this year. Because of the high summer rainfall (one of the highest on record), grass growth was very strong all through the summer months. In addition Mill Lane pitches have a very fast rate of grass growth compared to many other parts of the county.
The pitches in Mill Lane were inspected recently and the grass length was found to be in line with FAI grass maintenance guidelines. Earlier this month a problem was identified with the quality of cut in some areas of the pitches due to a mechanical issue with one mower. This mower was sent for repair and is no longer causing problems.
A review of grass cutting records was also undertaken for Mill Lane to assess the frequency of grass cutting operations. The records indicate that the frequency is acceptable and despite the set back with the machine as indicated above the high level of service delivery will be maintained. The matter will be kept under review over the coming weeks.
