MOTION: Councillor M. Devine

"That the Manager reassess the decision to withdraw the "Lolipop Lady" from assisting safe passage of school children from Solas Chroist school and surrounding areas."

REPORT:

The removal of the school warden service at Solas Chroist was considered following the upgrade of the nearby Cookstown Road and Cookstown Way junction and construction of Bóthar Kathryn Tynan. These road works significantly modified pedestrian crossing arrangements at this location. It was observed that the pupils attending the school were using the recently provided pedestrian crossings within the road junction thereby negating the demand for the school warden. Given current demands on the school warden service it is not possible to continue to provide wardens where pupils utilise other appropriate crossings. The location will be monitored to ensure that the crossings are being used and safety is not being compromised.
