MOTION NO. 22

MOTION: Councillor B. Bonner

This Committee recommends that work would commence immediately on the project on the Old Nangor Road between the Mill Centre and Coláiste Chillian.  Another school year has already commenced and the children attending the primary and Secondary school in the Coláiste Chillian campus are once again being asked to walk to school along a very dangerous road with no footpath.   This committee cannot ignore this foreseeable risk to the health and safety of those schoolchildren and all pedestrians at this location. The committee recommends that a timetable for the completion of the works be provided and that work would commence without delay.

REPORT: 

Negotiations are at an advanced stage between the Council and the Golf Club on Nangor Road to acquire a strip of land which will allow the design and construction of proper footpaths on both sides of the Old Nangor Road to proceed. Works can only commence when this is completed.The Council hopes to have the land transfer completed in a number of weeks allowing for the necessary works to commence immediately thereafter.
