MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

MOTION NO. 26

MOTION: Councillor T. Delaney

That this Committee requests the Council to instigate a plan to clean up and restore the Camac River from Watery Lane up to and including the Community Centre. This valued waterway has great potential but has been the victim of neglect by SDCC for a number of years.

REPORT:

The East CFRAMS (Catchment Flood Risk Assessment and Management Study) Programme which is funded and managed by the OPW (Office of Public Works) is on going at the moment and this programme is to produce Flood Hazard Mapping by the end of 2013 and a Catchment Flood Risk Management Plans by the end of 2015. The East CFRAMS area covers most of the rivers in Leinster including the Camac. It has been agreed between the OPW, RPS (their Consultants), DCC (Dublin City Council) and SDCC that the Flood Maps and Management Plans for both the Camac and Poddle Rivers would be fasttracked because of the amount of flooding of houses and industrial units that took place on the 24th of October 2011 along these rivers. It would therefore be prudent to wait and see what flood alleviation/ attenuation works these Flood Management Plans recommend for the Camac River in the Clondalkin area (if any) before proceeding with any plans of our own. Any works recommended in these Flood Management Plans will be funded by the OPW whereas SDCC has no money to fund such works.
