MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 18

MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart

"That the Manager will investigate the parking in the vicinity of and on the roads surrounding Rosemount Shopping Centre to ensure that the maximum number of parking spaces are provided for visitors to the Ruah Centre, Chruch, Library, Shopping and Trading Facilities and Community Centre and that the Manager will commit to examining all options in seeking to provide for additional parking spaces that do not impinge on householders and faciliate the smooth running of the Centre and the Public and Parish facilities provided therein."

REPORT:

Parking is available in the public car park at this shopping center and the Council does not want to encourage parking  in the Residential Areas in the vicinity as this may discomode the local residents.

However, it is important to note that the roads in the residental areas are public roads and motorists are free to park as long as they park responsibly and legally. Parking restrictions in the form of double yellow lines have been introducted on most of the roads in the vicinity of this Shopping Centre following complaints from the residents of indiscriminate and unsafe parking around this area. The matter is being examined and it is intendeed to carry out a parking survey to determine the extend of longstay parking in the carpark and to determine what, if any, measures can be taken, by metering or otherwise to regulate same.

It should be noted that during the course of the development of the new library that approximately 25 spaces have been removed. It is intended that these will be replaced as soon as works are completed. It may be possible to provide addional parking facilities by set back of footpaths subject to resources being made available.

A report will be made to October meeting
