QUESTION NO. 13

QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

To ask the Manager to outline the proposed new arrangements to be introduced for maintenance of the N4 and other NRA roads in the county; and to further outline the arrangements that will be in place to facilitate elected members’ representation and to ensure accountability?

REPLY:

Roads Department personnel met with the NRA in relation to the maintenance of both the N7 and N4 on Tuesday 4th September and the following was agreed:

• Tenders for the Maintenance contract of the N7 and N4 will issue in 3 weeks to 7 shortlisted consortia.  It is intended that maintenance will include road repairs, barrier repair, public lighting, grass cutting and winter maintenance and be similar to the arrangements that pertain with the M50 which is maintained by M50 Concession. 
• The successful contractor will nominate a Liaison Person who will be the link between SDCC and the company in relation to Public representations etc.
• The new contract is expected to be in place by April / May 2013.
