MOTION NO.4

MOTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

That this council welcomes the completion of the audit of road signage in architectural conservation areas and calls on the Manager to outline an approach in response to the audit’s findings.

REPORT:

In June 2012 the Council carried out an audit of the condition and relevance of the signage in the 5 areas of Architectural Conservation in the County, Rathfarnham, Clondalkin, Tallaght, Lucan and Palmerstown Villages.

The audit has categorised the actions that need to be taken. The two main actions required are reinstatement or removal of signage identified in the survey. Detailed maps, descriptions and photographs are included in the Survey and will form the basis for the programming of the work required.

The findings were as follows:-

No Scheme Boards Present at any of the Architectural Conservation Areas

22 Superfluous SDCC Signs (to be removed)

24 SDCC Signs to be repaired/replaced

7 Private Signs (in Lucan only) to be examined

In addition the Lucan Tidy Towns committee had independently carried out an audit for Lucan Village, this has now been submitted to the Council and is being cross referenced with the SDCC signage audit for Lucan Village.

Following a meeting with the Roads Maintenance Section it is intended that work will start immediately and be scheduled throughout the summer months.
