QUESTION NO. 13

QUESTION: Councillor E. Higgins

"To ask the Manager if the Council are considering running any events in the Lucan LEA to celebrate National Play Day?"

REPLY:

National Play Day is an initiative supported by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs.

South Dublin County Council is one of 25 local Authorities across the country who are hosting events to celebrate and promote play at a local level.

Play has a vital role to play in the development of our children’s lives, National Play Day is aimed at providing children with an opportunity to play in both a fun and challenging environment. This years theme is “Experiment with Play.”

National Play Day 2012 is scheduled to take place in Corkagh Park on Saturday 30th June starting at 11.00a.m. and finishing at 1.00p.m. It follows on from last year's inaugural event which attracted between 8,000 and 10,000 people on the day

There will be many activities for young people to try out on the day, as well as ideas for parents to take home, and old favourites such as bouncy castles and face painters. Admission is free of charge and all are welcome

The day is run by the Community Services Department in partnership with South Dublin Childcare Committee.
