MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

MOTION NO. 17

MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

"That this Committee is seriously disappointed by the apparent change of attitude by the Minister and Department of Social Welfare (as reflected in different responses in correspondence to SDCC on the  matter and a recent Parliamentary Question) about repeated proposals from the Council to provide an adequate Social Welfare Office in Lucan, and requests the Manager to write again to the Minister drawing her attention to the fact that over 4,300 Lucan EA residents are on the Live Register, that the existing SW Office is quite unsuitable, that the Lucan EA does not have a LES office, and asking the Minister to give these deficiencies in services for unemployed residents and the provision of improved facilities and services a higher priority, and to copy the correspondence to the Minister to the four Dublin Mid-West Dail Deputies."

REPORT:

This matter was discussed at the May Meeting of the Committee (Motion 25 Refers). Arising from this discussion it was Agreed to write to the Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works requesting a progress report on the actions taken by his Office to identify a premises suitable to serve as a Social Welfare Office for the Lucan area. A letter has issued to the Minister in this regard and when his response is received the Committee will be notified accordingly.
