COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

MOTION NO. 1
MOTION: Councillor M. Duff
Cathaoirleach’s Business
That this Committee call on the Manager to provide a Green Waste Disposal facility in Tymon Park,at a reasonable fee to the general public, and that if such facility be granted, that the mulched end product be available for purchase at a reasonable cost to the general public. The provision of the Green Waste Disposal facility would greatly benefit local Environmental groups, Allotment holders, individual housholders and Residents Assocations.
REPORT:
The previous decision during the Budget 2010 process to close the Esker Green Waste Facility because of its lack of financial viability and the ongoing shortfall in income from that facility suggest that similar problems would be experienced if a facility were to open in Tymon. The widespread availability of kerbside brown bin collections also impact on demand for such a facility while the availability of a facility to accept green waste at Ballymount Civic Amenity, which is in very close proximity to Tymon Park, provides perhaps the strongest argument against the need for such a facility.
Consequently, it is not felt that there is an identified need to provide a green waste disposal facility in Tymon Park.
