COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, June 12, 2012
HEADED ITEM NO.17
HEADED ITEM: P. Department
Wooded area behind Brookvale, Church Lane, Rathfarnham
REPLY:
There is evidence of the use of a section of the wooded area to the rear of the old graveyard in Rathfarnham and the houses to the rear of Brookvale for anti-social activity. This activity appears to be drinking by teenagers in particular and which it was alleged then descends into other activities including intimidation of householders and use of a section of the area as a toilet.
A meeting was held on the 6th June 2012 with a resident whose house backs onto the area and who is also involved in the local Tidy Towns Committee. The resident expressed a desire on the part of the Committee to remove some undergrowth to the rear of Tournville Lodge to facilitate the removal of litter items including bottles, plastic and paper and to remove some undergrowth to a corner section to the rear of Brookvale. This was agreed and the Council also agreed to consider how this unacceptable activity can be curtailed.
It was also agreed that the Council would remove the cans, bottles and other items dumped into the woodland and strewn around the grass area.
It should also be noted that this area is an important Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity site in South Dublin as well as having important and probably undocumented historical infrastructure and it is important that it be treated sensitively.
