COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 7
MOTION: Councillor P. Cosgrave
Cathaoirleach's Business
"That the Manager include in the Permeability scheme for this year a footpath with lighting at the road reservation at Park Avenue and the rear of Hermitage Estate. There is already a footpath on the Dunlaoghaire Rathdown Council side to Nutgrove. A footpath linking this would clean up the area and stop anti-social behaviour and be greatly used by walkers and cyclists."
REPORT:
Following previous discussions in 2011 with members of the Rathfarnham Area Committee with regard to the favourable nature of a proposed link along the road reservation, and following the commencement of a similar project in Knocklyon the Planning Department submitted a funding application in this regard in December 2011. Funding has been granted to the Council by the National Transport Authority to progress a design to Part 8 this year. This would involve completing and upgrading the existing footpath to create a shared walking and cycling route from Grange Road to Grange Manor Road. It is envisaged the scheme would include increased lighting and CCTV. The Planning Department is currently preparing a briefing document which will be circulated to members of the Rathfarnham Area Committee and will outline the scope of the scheme and the steps to be taken to progress the project to Part 8 this year.
