QUESTION NO. 2

QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff

"To ask the Manager to make a report on the funding situation for 2012 for the Dodder Valley Partnerships Intercultural Drop- In Centre and to indicate  (a) The amount of funding given to date, (b) Is he is aware of the possible withdrawl of funding for 2012 and (c) what actions he has taken to address this possible withdrawal of funding by the Dept of Justice and Equality."

REPLY: For the last few years, the Council has been able to support the Intercultural Centre in Tallaght through funding made available by the Department of Justice and Equality. In 2010, it was allocated €40,000 and in 2011, another €40,000 was allocated.

Funding for the Intercultural Centre in Tallaght was included in an application made by the Social Inclusion Unit in December 2011 to the Office of the Minister for Justice and Equality for projects aimed at integration. A detailed report has also been submitted outlining te programmes delivered to date and the costs associated with same. However, so far, funding from the Department for 2012 has not been confirmed so far.

The Council has been in direct contact with the Department and will continue to pursue this issue until it has been resolved.
