MOTION: Councillor M. Corr

That the Manager further to several inadequate responses from the Gardai in Tallaght regarding unsupervised horses on public open spaces within some housing estates arrange a meeting with senior Gardai responsible for operational and public relations matters to ensure clarity of areas of responsiblity and consistency of response to this matter within the Tallaght area.

REPORT:

Where a loose/stray horse is sighted on public open space, members of the public are actively encouraged to report the sighting to the Council's Environmental Department   (01) 4149000.  The Council will arrange with the Council's nominated Horse Contractor to round up/impound the loose/stray horse/horses.  Where sightings are made out of office hours, members of the public should contact the Gardai, Tallaght Garda Station who will make direct contact with the Horse Contractor.

Having regard to the problems as outlined in the motion, South Dublin County Council will contact the Superintendent, Tallaght Gardai with a view to clarifying/reviewing/strengthening the protocols in place for acting on reports from members of the public at weekends relating to round up/impounding of loose/stray horses.
