QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

"To ask the Manager for an updated report on the new Community Centre at the SuperValu Shopping Centre, Palmerston, including information on the staffing of the Centre and the range and nature of activities being held in the Centre?"

REPLY:

Following the substantial completion of the construction works required to bring the facility up to the required standard to allow for community activities lates last year, a new committee was established at the Palmerston Community Council AGM and the new committee has been working steadily to set up the new facility so that it can begin to operate as a community centre. 

Members of the SDCC Community Team have been in regular contact with the committee advising and informing them as the various issues arise. The importance of the need to consider the most appropriate way of staffing the centre and the range and nature of the activities has been emphasised by SDCC and while SDCC have an advisory role here, these decisions are for Palmerston Community Council rather than SDCC.
