MOTION: Councillor B. Lawlor

That this Committee calls on the Manager to pilot a scheme for the introduction of big belly solar paneled bins in the Tallaght South Ward.

REPORT:

Such bins were trialled a couple of years ago and while there were some benefits from the extra storage capacity provided by them, the cost of replacement of these bins is more than ten times the cost of a standard litter bin.  During the trial period two bins were maliciously damaged by fire resulting in a decision to no longer use them as they were too costly to replace.
