COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 26
MOTION: Councillor C. Jones
"That the Manager will write to all of the schools in Lucan/Palmerston with particular emphasis on the Irish language schools to promote the use of our Irish Language online services."
REPORT:
South Dublin County Council has been actively promoting the Irish language and its services through Irish for a number of years now, and as a result members of the public and schools have access to a range of facilities and websites as Gaeilge.
Citizens and students can browse Council and Library services as Gaeilge and also have access to all our policies and forms as Gaeilge on www.athcliaththeas.ie and www.southdublinlibraries.ie
Books can be renewed on the move through a new app from the libraries, or readers can browse the Library Irish website, so whether library users want to renew, reserve or update their account it can be done from a PC or smart phone and through Irish. This can also allow users to practice the Irish or cupla focal online language learning!
Problems in realtion to non emergency issues eg littering / graffitti etc can be notified to us using www.deisighdoshraid.ie (Fixyourstreet) and it’s app.
The Council offer a multiplicity of services as Gaeilge: check an address as Gaeilge, find Seachtain na Gaeilge on Facebook, see news breaking on the homepage, renew dog licences or use Irish in business with Gaeilge i nGnó (www.ging.ie)
Much of the above will facilitate cross curricular learning between Irish, CPSE and business in both Gaelscoileanna and English speaking schools.
Please see a list of links which may assist you in Irish or CPSE Classes

If the motion is passed the members' sentiments will be conveyed to the schools as outlined in the body of the motion.
